Not sure what you mean by regular FireBird but a 12X is Champion plastic. If you have a Champion FireBird with no 12X stamp on it then it is just a different stamp - they are otherwise the same aside from which run they come from.

(LHBH) I picked this up from the used pile at the Clearwater store. It seemed new, despite being in the used pile. I at first assumed it was because someone won it and sold it to the store, now I realized that this thing could have been used for years and it would still be in the same shape as when it was new.
It stay on any line you give it, and keeps that line for about 9/10th of the flight before fading out. when it hits the ground, it doesn't skip or roll, just slides for a foot or two. It is a little unwieldy, so you need to put a lot of power behind it for longer distances.
I mostly use this on holes with lots of trees, where I don't want to destroy my more fragile drivers or where I'm afraid hitting a tree might send my disc flying into the woods. If you hit a tree with this, no harm will come to the disc and it won't ricochet nearly as violently as any other plastic might.
Because It holds any line, it has a pretty predictable flight path, but you need to have a very consistent release to trust in this disc, it won't do any favors for you. That being said, if I were only allowed to use one disc for a whole course, I would pick this one since you can get some decent drives, some simple and safe midrange shots, and it's rubber material makes it a safe putter, too.
Lastly, make sure you get it in a color that's easy to spot. Mine is a green brown swirl which really hides in the woods.
