Champion Tern - Champ on Tour
By now most of you are familiar with the Champion Tern, Innova`s latest High-speed, medium-stable distance driver that`s been one of the summer`s hottest releases.
Some of you may have even seen the CHAMP, KEN CLIMO using it for some of his long drives out on tour this year.
Recently Innova released the Star Tern to compliment the Champion Tern with just a little less stability and a nice grippy top plate.
Now we`ve just received their latest -
The Starlite Tern
A blizzard version of Star plastic with tiny air bubbles injected into the mold which enables Innova to make this large wing driver in much lower weights from the upper 150s down as low as 130 grams.
Valkyrie Speed 9 vs. Tern 12
Many players are comparing the Tern to the Valkyrie in flight but with much greater speed.
The Valkyrie is rated a 9 speed while the Tern bumps that up to 12, so for all you Valkyrie lovers out there this just may be that lightweight Valkyrie on steroids you`ve been looking for.
Beginners/ intermediate/ finesse
We highly recommend the Starlight Tern for beginner to
intermediate players as well as any finesse player that`s not prone to overpowering the disc.
This early run has a nice rigid feel and a bit of a dome to it which will somewhat counter the lighter weight and understability you might expect from this disc.
159 gram. I was hoping for and looking for a faster Wraith or Valk, in terms of loooong glide. I have and throw a variety of Kites (innova's go-to for , "Want more Glide?" ) I have yet to see that type of glide and release. This thing does well into the wind, but definitely has a propensity (RHFH) in calm conditions to settle HARD off to shooters right at end of throw, and does not have that end-of-flight release and glide. So, yes, helical S type flight. I have a Gateway Samurai, very similar flight, distance, etc. I was hoping for a longer Latitude 64 River. I think the closest I have found to the River, but unfortunately for me only in heavier weights for my weak self, is the Snap Disc Helios, which really can and does go forever... (wish they'd make the Helios it in a bubbly plastic and or lighter weight). Starlight seems durable as all get-out.. the badlands here have not killed it like they do DX, Pro, champ, and even star plastic (yet). (Posted on 1/15/14)
