The Surge is one of Discraft’s most popular and versatile high speed drivers. With a wing length in between the newest drivers and old distance standards, the Surge offers a more comfortable grip for smaller hands. It also has a little less speed than the other top tier distance drivers, but makes up for that with a more consistent stability and impeccable glide. For players who are still learning how to get snap on their release; the Surge will fly straight and finish hard. For bigger arms the Surge flies long and straight with a slightly understable glide before a predictably overstable finish. The Z and ESP plastic versions of the Surge are similar in terms of stability and durability. The FLX Surge is the fastest and most overstable Surge. The "SS" for super straight and the entire "SS" line from Discraft does just that. All versions vary in stability based on their run, so if the first one you try is too understable/overstable, try a different color and weight.
This disc is a must own for new players, and vets as well. New players might not find it to be very forgiving at first, but once your break in and recognition period are over you'll toss this further and straighter than any driver in your bag. For vets it's a beautiful disc for tight fairways with extended use as a anhyzer turn over disc. Not as far flying as some other drivers, but great control and a wide range of uses. Predictable, quick, controllable. (Posted on 11/10/12)
Very similar to an SL or a Pro Wraith, both speed wise and stability wise. Very straight for those without the biggest arms, but still gets distance. Reliable S curve driver for those with bigger arms. (Posted on 9/27/12)
This is the disc I use for long, straight shots. Can anhyzer hard if thrown incorrectly but if thrown correctly I can get it to fly 300ft (my max distance with discs besides blizzards). I love this disc and use it all the time. Turns over harder in headwind but can fight and stay up in a tailwind. (Posted on 8/27/12)
I really like the Surge SS. Went nice and straight for me. Thrown with a slight hyzer I could get it to flatten out and end with a slight S curve. Very nice for tight areas where you need to be straight on. I tried a lower weight version for more of an Anhyzer but it became too flippy for me. (Posted on 4/28/12)
I throw a 164g Surge SS (elite z). Compared to the Avenger SS (elite Z) and XL (elite X), the Surge SS is by far my go to driver. I'm sold on the elite z plastic and can't wait to try the Nuke when it comes out next week. I know they are different drivers but I'm NEW to the sport and need to be able to compete in the weekend rec tourneys that I play. (Posted on 7/1/10)
