The DX XD Plus is our Editor`s Pick for best straight to turnover long approach disc. It works best in the 180-240 foot range. They start off just a tad stable and can be used for slight hyzer upshots but break in quickly to become very straight. Later in their lifespan they become a great turnover approach disc. Some players use these as a fast low-profile putter. But it`s real strengths come from the fact that it doesn`t deviate a whole lot off of its flight path(low error ratio-high percentage of success-even on bad releases) and it has the best brakes in the business for straight and turnover upshots. For stable upshots, try the DX Rhyno. The XD tends to come in 2 different plastics - stiff DX and softer putter plastic. We recommend the stiff for stability and durability. We recommend the soft if you want this disc to break-in and turnover quick. Either way, this disc does the job well. If you want a stable version of this, get the CFR Star XD.
The new DX XD Plus has a relaxed grip where the underside has a bit of an angle to it to let it slide off the finger a bit easier.
A little disc history: the XD was originally designed as Innova`s follow-up to the Aviar and was intended to be it`s long-distance cousin. It was originally called the Aviar XD and the XD stood for extra distance. And back then, in the mid-80`s, it was the distance king. It`s been reported that when players first started getting them they were THE MAN on the course. Something akin to how players today feel about the Wraith or the Destroyer. Now its just a humble upshot disc. Chew on that for a while.
These are all 175 grams, maximum weight for the diameter and recommended weight for this type of putter.
